Devilish - Wallpaper Pack by MelissaFindley Devilish - Wallpaper Pack by MelissaFindley
I was browsing the wallpaper gallery the other day and decided that there really wasn't anything in it that appealed to me (or fit my huge gigantic monitors). So I decided, for fun, to put together a quick wallpaper to share with all of YOU.

So here go: something a little devilish to decorate your machines. There are four different sizes in the wallpaper pack, ranging from the standard to the hugely gigantic.

Hopefully I uploaded this correctly.

DO NOT change, alter, repost, republish, or redistribute these wallpapers on any other sites or in any other way.

I'm almot afraid to ask, but do you think I could use this wallpaper in a book trailer I'm doing for a college class? It is purely for educational purposes, and it in no way is intended to promote sales or profit. I will of course give you all credit for the picture!

Provided it's just for your class book trailer, and you credit it properly with the line "2008-2012 Melissa Findley, used with permission." then, yes, you can use it for your book trailer. If you post it somewhere online, I'd like to see it as well.

I made sure to credit as you stated. I believe she will post it online somewhere on a blog. I'll send you the link when she does! It's on the poetry book "black stars in a white night sky" by JonArno Lawson.

Simply stunning work. If I may ask - how 'quick' is 'quick'? Because to me, this looks like a lovingly slaved-over piece!

Ooh, I really like your use of colors here. It's so great to see pics like this with this sort of atmosphere, using more subtle tones - you could have easily used black to show the inherent DARKNESS of the picture, but you used a more muted brown, which is in some ways even creepier.

Haha, I didn't even notice the DDs the last few days because I've been so busy, congrats on achieving yet another!

Beautiful, beautiful work! Really impressed with this desktop art. Thank you very kindly for sharing. I'm anxious to get to your gallery!

As a side note: my passion for creating wallpapers actually started the very same as your description of this piece reads.

Congratulations on the DD!!

It's *hard* to find big wallpapers sometimes. Even if you browse using the Wallpaper feature it's difficult to find something that will fit large displays (and there seems to be very little fantasy art related wallpapers that fit my displays, too).

So yeah.

I'm still a little stunned that something I threw together in a matter of a few hours got a DD, but I'm thrilled about it. :D

You should be. There's a lot of really good quality desktop art in this genre, but you're right about very little stylized fantasy art being available. It's something I've been considering doing myself just to help inspire some younger artists to stay varied and get more of these "missing" areas filled in.

It's difficult when the trends that are out there are so intensely followed as they are.

As to resolutions: I try to work larger and larger as time goes on, to keep up with the demand of widescreen monitors becoming less expensive (and more popluar, of course!). My max resolution for wallpaper packs is 2560x1600. I find that most of the demand out there is for 1920x1200 for widescreens... but there's always that rare few who need larger.

What's your res running right now?

1680x1050 on the Cintiq and 1920x1200 on the main monitor

Ah, right on. Those are awesome resolutions.

You pretty much have the wealth of widescreens covered when working down from 1920. So that's good to know! If anyone comes by asking about where to find cool fantasy art, i'll send them your way for sure.

It's excellent exposure for anyone to do wallpapers. Have plans to do more walls in the future?!

I might. :D I may turn my current work in progress into a wall paper... maybe. It's hard sometimes with original art to post it as wallpapers because the chance that it'll get stolen and edited at such huge sizes... well, it makes you hesitate. But I might add a border or something.

Sweet!! I hope you do.

Completely understand as to the ripping. The percent of work stolen is pretty equal no matter the genre though, I think. Someone of your talent would probably have to worry about that no matter which medium you're submitting.

I've seen people get pretty inventive with their translations from "digital art" to "wallpaper" though. Reducing the actual art and implementing it into the res parameters as though it were a "picture in a picture", prettying up the negative space with gradients or complimentary patterns. Or huge marks of re-thinking via cropping half the work and sliding it to the side instead of the center... things like that. In fact, with the breadth of your work, you could even do multiple, vertical slices of different artworks and set them side by side across the canvas... just showing detail bars of the best stuff.

All comes down to how much work you want to put into gaining that extra exposure.
